WWF Winter Wander – Feb 2023

IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY…

You might notice there’s less wildlife than there used to be. The latest in WWF’s flagship research series, the Living Planet Report, shows that our planet’s wildlife populations have now plummeted by 69% since 1970 – and there are no signs that this downward trend is slowing.

Half of all UK species are in decline – we’re losing our precious red squirrels, hedgehogs and birds at an alarming rate. When nature suffers, we all suffer. But we have a prescription, and if we act now we can protect our health and the health of our planet.

By taking part in The Big Winter Wander, we can connect with our country’s beautiful wildlife and help protect it. The funds you raised will help the WWF campaign to protect wildlife here, and around the world.

Many thanks to everyone who came along to join our Lantern Walk in aid of Children in Need. It was a really lovely evening which ended with chips at the Manor House – a huge thank you to Rebecca and Lee for being so generous and also providing us with a perfect place to gather after our walk down to the harbour. We raised £120.14 for Children in Need!

Bikelights Nov 2022

seagull

It was great to have Bikelights back on again this year. The light parade, organised by Wadebridge Creative Hub, is an opportunity for children at local schools to get creative and ride together through Wadebridge, and this year for the first time, also in Bude. This year’s theme was ‘The Atlantic Highway’ so the older children shared their ideas and worked in collaboration with local artist Reg Payne, to design and create a campervan which was constructed from willow and tissue and then built around a tricycle. Class 2 teacher, Mr Rix, was the pilot along
with children, parents and staff, who all rode their decorated bikes in the parade. It was brilliant fun and we look forward to joining in again next year!

St Nectan's Glen whole school trip Sept 2022

seagull

We all had a lovely day out in nature; walking along to the waterfall, through the Nature Trail and everyone enjoyed a talk about bees (and the chance to sample the honey!

The children have come back to school full of ideas on how we can develop our Wild Valley area; building bug hotels, a bird hide and cloud watching frames for starters! As always, the children were a credit to our school in how well they engaged with the activities. Several members of the public commented to staff on how well behaved the children were and on their good manners, which is always lovely to hear and makes us proud.
