Our MFL Vision

We aim to:

  • foster children’s interest in learning languages
  • develop and deepen their understanding of the French language and culture
  • provide practical opportunities to communicate in French, both through speaking and writing, with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity
  • provide a basis on which they can build as they move onto KS3 and apply their language knowledge

Our MFL Curriculum

French lessons are delivered by Madame Smith, a specialist MFL teacher and are planned and sequenced to ensure that children are given the opportunity to practice existing skills and develop more advanced skills in preparation for their next stage of language learning. Children’s learning is interactive and supported by visual prompts, songs, stories, actions and games.

During lessons progress is continually assessed across the key skills and subsequent lessons are structured to reinforce areas of weakness or develop strengths. Children are given regular opportunities to reflect on their own learning and skills, as well as peer assessment during speaking and listening tasks, and regular feedback from the teacher.
